Concerns
raised about the Marine Park proposal for Auckland's west coast
prompted option4 to get involved in the process. During 2003 option4
attended many meetings and addressed the Auckland Conservation on
a number of occasions to discuss this proposal. The proposal presented
a range of marine protection options for the wild west coast including
a mammal sanctuary and fishing restrictions. The proposal was a
result of work by the West Coast Working Group with support from
Forest and Bird and the Department of Conservation.
