Hui Discussion
The Kahawai legal challenge
and the Ministry of Fisheries released Shared Fisheries discussion
paper has dominated our landscape in the last six months and we
have only now come up for breath. This Shared Fisheries discussion
document needs our full attention as this Government moves to alter
fishing as we know it forever.
It is now clear that Customary, Recreational and Commercial Fishers
need to work together to halt this madness before decent information
is gathered to make informed decisions before moving on with the
sustainable Management of our fisheries.
We are all aware that because of over allocation of quota by MFish
at the outset of the Quota Management system, we now find many of
our inshore shared fisheries in trouble and if not let to recover,
may be lost to us forever.
