More "confiscation in the name of conservation."
Great Barrier Marine reserve decision a disgrace.
In announcing his decision to proceed with the Aotea Marine
reserve at the Great Barrier, the Minister of Conservation
has taken his arrogance and disregard for New Zealanders
to a new level, said Larry Baldock, United Future's conservation
spokesperson.
Announcing a token reduction in the size of the reserve
by a paltry 508 hectares is a both a joke and an insult
to the many thousands of Aucklanders and residents of Great
Barrier Island who lodge objections to the proposal. It is simply
another case of "confiscation in the name of conservation,"
said Mr Baldock.
