As
promised late last year the Minister has decided to review his 2004
kahawai decision.
There
is no significant new research available to base a new decision
on.
The
Ministry of Fisheries has offered two options in the Initial Position
Paper (IPP), either stay with the decision the Minister made last
year (status quo), or reduce commercial, recreational and customary
allowances by 10% each (a proportional reduction) across all Quota
Management Areas (QMAs).
The
way this reduction is proposed has many of the same faults as the
initial decision that we are challenging in the Kahawai Legal Challenge
(KLC).

will be made available within the next week to allow you the opportunity
to make direct comments to the Ministry and Minister. If you have
not already done so, please register

form is online.
Time is very short and
you only have until August 10th to submit to the
