Option4 offers their opinion on the Soundings Document

The three Soundings Document options are:

Three broad options are offered. Theoretically, individual components of each option can be mixed to provide a hybrid, however, most are incompatible. All of the options as they stand appear to be seriously flawed. All of the options allow the Government to escape its responsibility to provide for the needs of future generations of recreational fishers. All of the options present serious and unacceptable risks to current and future recreational fishers rights to catch a reasonable bag of fish.

What does the Soundings Process mean for New Zealand Tourism

In the 'Soundings' document prepared by the “Rights Working Group” made up of the New Zealand Recreational Fishing Council and the Ministry of Fisheries, three options have been proposed for rights definition and the management of recreational fishing in New Zealand. Any of these three options will likely result in restrictions that will negatively impact a substantial part of the tourist trade dependent on inshore ocean fishing.
