Policy & Principles of the Option4 Group

The objective of this web site is summarised in the 5 points below.

1
To design and implement educational strategies to truthfully inform recreational fishers of the immediate dangers and future consequences of the document "Soundings", which attempts to solve the perceived problems of managing recreational fishers through three options.

2

To devise a broad strategy that mitigates the extreme risks associated with the three proposals in the soundings document and create a fourth option for managing the recreational fishery without committing recreational fishers to unnecessary risks.

3

To release the forth option through all available media to prevent any possibility of the consultation process on the Soundings document gathering submissions from the fishing public without informing them of the real risks associated with the solutions promoted in that document.

4

To create a unified position for the recreational sector to lobby towards. This will defeat any possibility that MoF officials, the Commercial sector or Maori Traditional representatives, can turn or confound the multitude of varied submissions likely to result from the public consultation, to drive their own agendas forward.

5

To establish a mandate from clubs, associations, and individuals with an interest in recreational fishing to pursue the fourth option directly with Fisheries managers on their behalf.
