Marine Protection

Great Barrier Island

DoC advise a letter was due to go out to all who made a submission on their proposal for GBI by the end of last week (14/5/04). DoC expect to have a formal application for a marine reserve by July. The boundaries are only slightly different to the original proposal put out in 2003.

Absolutely no evidence of a coordinated, integrated approach to marine protection.

Tiritiri Matangi/ Whangaparaoa

The Tiri Action Group (TAG) has released an update on the proposal from NZ Underwater Association for a marine reserve in the Tiritiri/ Whangaparaoa area. NZUA hope to have a progress report withing six months.
