30
members peppered the option4 speakers with insightful questions
for over an hour of formal presentation. We knocked off as early
as possible and the meeting broke up into a number of smaller groups
and the questions and suggestions kept flowing.
The
presentation covered the history of both the Quota Management System
and the Soundings public consultation process. The response by option4
to the Cabinet Paper was the subject of much questioning. These
guys were hungry for information.
Money was discussed. The advice given by option4 was to Wake Up
- Start Gathering. Open a separate account, call it "Our Right
To Fish", fill it up with cash by way of levies, raffles, donations,
cake stalls etc and stand by. The hard earned, tax paid dollars
of club members needs to be spent wisely. When the need for that
cash arises, that need will be compelling and obvious.
Option4
is confident that the clubs following this advise wont find the
decision to part with the money a difficult one when the right time
and reason occurs.
Get
connected and connect others. We tried to emphasise the need for
registering support online, thus being kept well informed, reliably,
monthly. The ability to introduce others online was stressed.
Be
ready to give up a days fishing in order to man a ramp, marina,
supermarket etc. Again, wait until the right moment to deliver the
necessary message.
Thankyou Manukau Sport Fishing Club members.
Your
support from the beginning has been outstanding.
