Dear supporters

Conservation online

A Planning Right- and what this means for you is explained in full at www.option4.co.nz/updates/nzfnupdate1103.htm . This is essential reading if you want to know what the 3 rd Principle can do for you and your family. The ability to allow for future population growth while also providing for your right to go fishing for food is fundamental to future reforms.

Fishing during spawning?

One of the most frequently asked questions is, 'Why not stop fishing during the spawning season?' Read why this management measure would have little impact on fish numbers https://www.option4.co.nz/faqsnaspawn.htm

Marine Reserve Survey - Dive New Zealand magazine
A list of 14 questions were put to various organisations including option4. The answers have been published in full and make for interesting reading. Please consider buying a copy of this very high quality magazine and get an insight into where we are all heading with the marine reserve ideology. The editor of Dive is to be congratulated for approach - well done!

DoC Policy - Public meetings

West Coast Marine Park - A Paradise Conspiracy

This comprehensive article from the Investigate magazine is now online at www.option4.co.nz/wcpinvestigate0903.htm

Around 4500 submissions were sent in for consideration by the West Coast Working Group. Sand and Sea, the coastal users action group, amassed almost 4000 of these. An excellent effort in raising awareness of the marine park issue. We will advise you when the analysis of submissions is available.

Tiritiri Matangi Marine Reserve Proposal

NZU have made it quite clear we are not going to get any more information than what they have already provided. They are suggesting they will be considering all submissions using the Tiri Action Group (TAG) forms as one single objection.

To take public funds and spend it on a proposal and then ignore the public when they object is unacceptable. If you have any comment you would like to make to NZU contact Peter Crabb at peter@nzunderwater.org.nz . Read NZU's latest letter to TAG here https://www.option4.co.nz/tiritiri.htm

What's New

The full kingfish decision and associated documents are available here https://option4.co.nz/kingfish.htm

An interesting submission from the Auckland City Council to the marine reserve proposal for Great Barrier Island can be studied here. A little hard to understand why the ACC would want DoC to control fisheries management in the Hauraki Gulf
